Rebuilding year for the Blue Devils

This year’s wrestling season will go into the record books as an aberration considering the success Huntington wrestling has seen in the past. The coaches and the Super Devils wrestling club agree that this was a rebuilding year for the Huntington wrestling squad. The team has great potential and state championships to earn in the near future.

Although the season proved to be challenging for the varsity squad we still came away with enormous improvements. Tenth grader Corey Jamison had an impeccable season losing only two matches and winning the Suffolk County championship. Eigth grader John Arceri has just begun his winning ways as he earned himself all-county status by taking third place. Lastly, eleventh grader Nick Lupi is still on a mission as he finished his season all-state by placing fifth in the New York State Tournament.

The majority of the team is young, and very few are seniors this year. They are already hard at work and preparing for next year’s season. The Super Devils wrestling program anticipates a more aggressive regimen for this coming off-season. Steve Palacios and his Super Devils have committed to attending at least 20 tournaments for a potential of 80 matches in the off season.

Are you next?
The Super Devil wrestling shirt sported by those hard working camp goers who earned the shirt for completing a rigorous wrestling camp last summer places an emphasis on one goal...being a State Champion. The back of the shirt displays the question “Are you next?” within a large star. The stars signify a state championship title or recognition on the Huntington State Championship mat.
The Super Devils will be training throughout the off-season and will be concluded by a challenging 4 week camp in August.
